I am not having any luck printing a simple text file with PCL codes to my windows printer. If I have a text file with PCL codes and I want to dump that file to my default windows printer, how would I do that in C#? I tried just putting the printDocument1 object on my form and doing this: printDocument1.DocumentName = 'C: Tablerep.prn'; printDocument1.print(); it just prints a blank page every time. But I can open this file up in the dos EDIT.EXE and print and it prints fine. This can't be that difficult. The file is already ready to just be simply dumped to the default printer.

Yahoo full version. Thanks Reshma, I think I saw some code just like the link you gave showed but I guess I was thinking it couldn't be that involved just to send a text file to the default printer. I guess I was wrong. Each line must be read into a streamreader. Thanks again.

If you have ever come across PRN files, then you would know what a nuisance these can be. If you right click on these files, you never get the option to print the file. At the same time, you cannot open the file using any application either. The moment you do that, all you see are garbage characters that you can’t even read, leave alone print. In order to print.PRN files, you will have to use the DOS prompt. There is simply no other way of printing a PRN file. Open up the DOS Prompt by clicking on the Start button and selecting “Run”.

Then, type “command” in the Run box and press enter. The command prompt will open. After you open DOS prompt, do the following: • Navigate to the folder where the PRN file is located. For instance, if it is located in a folder named C: docs, then type “cd docs” in the prompt and press “Enter”. • The format of the next command would depend on the type of printer you have installed. • If you have a old printer that is connected to your PC via a parallel port (the type which is connected using ¼ inch cable having connector jacks at both ends), you will have to use the command – “COPY /B filename.PRN LPT1:” where filename is the name of the PRN file that you wish to print.

• If your printer is connected to your PC via a USB connector, the command will be different. It will be something like this – “COPY /B filename.PRN computer_name printer_share_name” where “filename” is the name of the PRN file that you wish to print. If you don’t know the name of your printer, you will have to find it out beforehand. Here is how you do it: • Open Control Panel. • Click on the icon named Printers and Faxes.
